When two-factor authentication is no longer enough

A race without a finish line
Securing your data in a digital world is a race against the methods attackers are constantly developing. Two-factor authentication has been one of the simple yet highly effective measures many businesses have adopted. It made digital break-ins much more difficult, but now hackers have found new ways around it.
Since 2023, it has become clear that hackers are collaborating on methods to bypass two-factor authentication. There are even services where you can order a phishing attack without having any technical knowledge yourself. Their solution is less about technique and more about social engineering: real domains, familiar logos, and brands you trust.
How the attackers work
A typical attempt starts with a link in an email that leads you to a page that looks like one you recognize. A fake login page captures your password, and a fake step captures your two-factor code. Finally, you are redirected to something that looks completely normal, while the attacker already has what they need.
That is why you and your team should regularly review information about attack methods, preferably every month or every quarter. Security work is an ongoing process, not a one-time job.
Our recommendations for better protection
- Build multiple layers of security. No single measure provides perfect defense on its own.
- Secure your client devices. PCs, mobiles, and tablets follow you everywhere and should have the same level of security as your data center.
- Keep software updated. Updates patch known security vulnerabilities.
- Invest in user training. Knowledge allows you to stay ahead of threats, not behind them.
Knowledge is the most important ingredient in security work.
The more you and your team know about how attackers think, the better equipped you are to stop them before they get in. We are happy to help you with both software and training.
